          Chiropractic Adjustment          £40.00

A Chiropractic treatment is called an adjustment, if after your initial consultation I have recommended Chiropractic treatment for you,  you will return for follow up sessions where I will re-check your spine and joints and adjust you accordingly. You will remain fully clothed so loose fitted clothing should be worn.  An adjustment can take between 10-15 minutes.
Before the Adjustment
Each session will begin with a chat about how you have been since the last visit, I will then do a posture check and I may need to re-check some tests from the initial examination to see how things are progressing.  Various techniques will be used to correct the alignment and restrictions in the joints of your body.  You will usually be laying on your front or your back and I will make sure you are comfortable before we start.
Manual Adjustments
Manual adjusting is done by hand, I will palpate to find which joint needs to be adjusted, put you in position and apply a quick thrust into the joint, this can produce a click or popping sound, a bit like when you crack your knuckles.  This does not usually produce pain for the patient providing they are able to relax.
Pelvic Blocking
If there is a misalignment of your pelvis or lower back I will let you lay on some small wedges which help to bring your pelvis and lower spine back into a normal alignment.  This usually feels very comfortable for the patient and I can often do some treatment on other areas of the body at the same time.  For those who are familiar with Chiropractic, this technique is based on SOT (Sacro-Occipital Technique).
Thompson Drop Technique
My Chiropractic bench is equipped with 'drop pieces' which allows for a quick movement to occur in a specific joint, it makes a clunking sound but does not usually produce pain for the patient, this may be repeated over the same joint or can be done over several different areas of the body.  The purpose is to help release joints that may feel 'stuck' or restricted and to help bring them back into normal alignment.
Activator Technique
The Activator is a small tool which can be used to adjust the joints in a more gentle way, it makes a clicking sound and is not painful for the patient.  It is especially useful for the elderly, children and people who do not want to be manually adjusted.
Muscle Work
If I find knotted or tight muscles which are involved in your pain or problem I will address these in a variety of ways. Trigger point therapy involves a firm pressure specifically over a 'knot', which we call a 'trigger point' if it is creating pain or restriction in the body. This can be somewhat painful for patients but they describe it as 'a good pain' and usually within 1-2 minutes the knot releases and the pain reduces significantly.  I will also use Dr Graeme's massager which uses vibrations into the muscle to help it to relax. If there is a ligament issue, for example, an ankle or knee sprain I will use a metal fascial edge tool with firm pressure over the area. This is a painful procedure but the results speak for themselves!
